ipad trying

Yesterday I posted on that there Facebook that I was looking at getting an ipad that I would possibly use for sketching, and asked if anyone had experience. No one did. But a very generous sole offered me theirs to try for an evening.
Here’s sketch 001 & 002 done with Procreate and my finger. I was quite impressed though the app was missing a couple of functions that I would expect to be there – though for £2.99 it’s hard to complain. I wonder how the pairing handles a bumpy bus journey – my usual doodling spot.

Meetings aren’t always loads of fun. Sometimes a ball point pen and a tiny scrap of paper can be all that stands between you and a ruined afternoon.

Creative Review

I was very pleased to be recently commissioned by Creative Review to create this illustration. It accompanies an article in which it is argued that the Mac and latterly the internet have changed graphic design from a little known and highly specialised profession to something everyone and their mother is doing. The article touches upon the mid-century, American graphic designers’ place in this transitional era, Creative Review, thought my work would be an appropriate match and this is what we came up with.
Thanks to Paul Pensom, for the commission and art direction.

Stephen Gardner

It’s always nice when someone takes the time to say something positive about your work. When that someone is as talented (and I mean seriously TALENTED) as Stephen Gardner, it’s especially welcome. Stephen is a Brit illustrator working in New York. Go take a look at his site or fantastic blog. In a world of illustration lead by style and trend his work stands out as having an integrity based in good old fashioned technique and practised ability – qualities I aspire to more than anything else.
