The Ride Journal

Got my contributors copy of The Ride Journal through the post this morning. The first thing that I noticed was the high standard of work included. Some really fantastic illustrators have contributed. I hope my piece doesn't get too outshone.
It's a really thorough piece of design and print, from layout and image choice through to stock and colour. Definitely one for the keeping. Luckily my postman folded mine in half to get it through the door so I don't have to worry about keeping it in good condition.

coogan's bluff

Being a Clint Eastwood fan (as all men should be) I snapped up a copy of Coogan's Bluff when I saw it for sale recently - £3 well spent. I had forgotten just how odd the film is. It plays as a sort of half way point between Clint's cowboy persona that had proceeded the film and made him famous and his Dirty Harry role which would follow. It also has a good bit of 60s flavour, at times it's like an episode of The Monkees but with violence and sex. Ok, it's dated but being 40 odd years old, it should have. It's well worth a watch.

It is also worth mentioning that it is the brownest film I have ever seen.

website hits celebration

This month, due to inclusions on sites such as Juxtapox, Creative Review and LCS, my folio site has received a record number of visits (2100 at the time of writing). There's still a long way to go but I think it's important to take advantage of these opportunities and celebrate small success.

Recently completed work

This is a small section of untreated drawing from my latest piece, commissioned by Singletrack magazine. Yes, it's another bike illo but there's a twist.

Howlin' Wolf

neil armstrong
local hero

A sketch of Neil Armstrong, first man on the moon, who is descended from my local town (he visited in the early 70's and received freedom of the district or something. Possibly not his greatest honour since returning from the moon). The famous Nasa photo portrait from which this is drawn hangs in the local town-hall and was something that caused great awe in my childhood-self, on weekly visits with my Mam, to pay the rent.
Drawn with a stick dipped in ink, just to keep the scientific / space theme going.
