birthday card / tattoo voucher

Q: What do you give the man with everything, including 97% of a tattoo?

A: A voucher to help with the other 3%.

Unfortuantaley said voucher takes the form of a scrap of paper with a scrawl on it. So I done gone put together a slightly nicer product. Now, I'm no typographer but this seemed like a solution that might please.

it's alive!!!

I've put a first draft of my site on line. Like old Frank here, it's not quite right.
If you could post the problems you find here, that'd be grand as owt. I've found a few myself but I'm sure there are many.

Click on Franky boy to be whisked away.

web site

I've been a busy, not to mention technologically frustrated, fella of late. I've finally got in gear and begun to build a web site. With no experience and no understanding it's been slow and at times painfull but light is sparkling down the end of that interweb tunnel. Best bit so far - playing with ink to get some free form type. Worst bit so far - evrything else.

star letter = pointless post

I picked up a copy of MBUK yesterday, to get me through a bus journey. Whilst 'thumbing' through I noticed that a post I'd put on their blog, late last year, had been used as the "star letter" on the letters page. This means I get a free helmet and pair of sunglasses. Nice. All the better as it's the second time I've won the prize. This takes my biking helmet count to 6. Pointless indeed.

cycle active magazine

Two illustrations, previously mentioned on here, commissioned by Cycle Active Magazine. The issue is now on the shelves so here are the two pieces as they appear. As a cyclist it is nice to be included in a bike magazine, even if it is road bikes. This issue also contains the work of a few other illustrators and as usual has a quality feel to it's design and print.

On a different note, the fella riding a bike on this issues cover is called Jim and I was at University with him, small world.

if - surrender

A super quick stab at this weeks illustration Friday, Surrender. Most of my freelance work tends to be editorial but I've never been asked to produce a really small illustration, the likes of which pop up in newspapers. I decided to treat this piece in a way that would make it read at a small size. Judge for yourselves.

The cut-out kid

Two reasons for this little fella. Firstly watching students trying new things and having fun gets me envious. Secondly I've been spending a good bit of time enjoying the early 60s illustration books that we have in the office. Mark-making-tastic.

... as knife edge wings slice distant skies...

Writting briefs for illustration students yesterday I got sidetracked and gave one a go myself.
